1. How to Get Here
Khao Sok is centrally located in Southern Thailand, making it highly accessible from major tourism hubs like Phuket, Krabi, Surat Thani, and Koh Samui.
✈️ Nearby Airports
Surat Thani Airport (URT) is the closest (approx. 1.5 hours away). You can book easy minivan tickets directly at the arrivals hall. Alternatively, Phuket Airport (HKT) and Krabi Airport (KBV) are both about 2.5 to 3 hours driving distance.
🚊 Train Travel
Take the overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Phunphin Railway Station (Surat Thani). Upon arrival, step outside to find waiting local public buses or private minivans heading straight to Khao Sok.
🚌 Public Bus Services
Public buses depart hourly from Surat Thani town or Takua Pa (near Khao Lak). Buses will drop you off right at the Khao Sok highway junction, where local pick-ups can take you into the village (1.8 km).
🚗 Driving & Parking
Highway 401 runs straight through Khao Sok. Roads are paved, wide, and well-marked. Standard parking is widely available at all hotels, and there is a safe overnight parking facility at Cheow Lan Lake Pier (approx. 80-100 THB per night).
2. Weather & Best Time to Visit
Being a rainforest basin in equatorial Southern Thailand, Khao Sok receives heavy precipitation all year round. The climate can be split into two primary seasons:
☀️ Dry Season (Nov - Apr)
Daytime temperatures average 30°C to 34°C. Humidity is lower, skies are clear, and forest hiking trails are completely dry and accessible. Recommended for active mountain hikers.
🌧️ Wet Season (May - Oct)
Temperatures are cooler (26°C to 29°C) but rainfall is heavy, especially in September and October. Expect breathtaking valley mists, rushing waterfalls, and a bursting lush forest.
3. Internet, Mobile Coverages & ATMs
📶 Mobile & SIM Cards
We recommend buying a physical SIM card or eSIM from AIS or TrueMove at your arrival airport. 4G and 5G signals are highly reliable throughout Khao Sok Village, but there is absolutely no coverage on Cheow Lan Lake, offering a wonderful opportunity for a quiet digital detox.
💵 Cash & ATMs
Southern Thailand runs primarily on cash. While high-end hotels accept credit cards (usually with a 3% fee), local food stalls, guides, and taxi drivers only accept Thai Baht (THB). There are 3 ATMs in Khao Sok Village (located outside 7-Eleven and near the park gate), but they occasionally run out of cash during high season. Always withdraw plenty of cash before arriving!
4. What to Pack Checklist
Keep your luggage as light as possible, especially if taking longtail boats. Here are the absolute essentials:

5. Safety Tips
Khao Sok is an incredibly safe destination for families, solo travelers, and seniors. However, entering a deep, wild jungle requires common sense:
- Never hike alone: Always hire a licensed ranger if heading off the main paved 2km park trail. Flash floods and animal paths can easily disorient hikers.
- Hydrate constantly: The tropical canopy is highly humid. Drink plenty of bottled water (avoid tap water) and pack electrolyte powders.
- Do not feed wildlife: Feeding wild monkeys can make them aggressive. Keep all food sealed inside your backpacks.
- Observe flash-flood warnings: If a ranger advises closing wet caves due to rain, follow their guidance immediately.
